Peter to compete at FINA Grand Prix in Canada

OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield will this month (April, 2010) be travelling to Canada to compete in the Fédération Internationale de Natation Diving Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old will be taking part in the third stage of the competition, which will be held in Montreal from Wednesday, April 28 until Sunday, May 2.

Peter, who won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, said: “I am really looking forward to going to Canada for the next stage of the FINA Diving Grand Prix. I will be competing in the 10 metre platform synchronised dive with my partner, Max Brick and in the 10 metre individual platform dive.

“I took part in the first stage of the competition, which was held in Rostock in Germany in February, and won a silver medal in the 10 metre individual platform event.

“I was delighted with my result, particularly as I beat current Olympic champion, Matt Mitcham, who won the gold medal for Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I hope to continue my success at the event in Canada.”

Created in 1995, the FINA Grand Prix is a series of annual diving competitions for the world’s elite springboard and platform divers. The focus of the events is to create a stage for divers to compete on a regular basis and to expose the sport in both the host countries and the world at large.
