SOUTHAMPTON-BASED Olympic and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield won three gold medals at the British Gas National Cup in Sheffield last weekend (February 5, 6 and 7, 2010).
Peter and his diving partner, Chris Mears, came first in the men’s three metre synchronised dive on Friday, February 5. Peter also won the men’s 10 metre synchronised dive with Max Brick on Saturday, February 6 and scooped the gold medal in the men’s 10 metre individual dive on Sunday, February 7.
The 28-year-old, who won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics, explained: “I am delighted with my result. To win three gold medals at the National Cup is a great start to 2010 and has filled me with confidence for the World Cup and Commonwealth Games later this year.”
Peter was awarded a score of 523.65 in the men’s 10 metre individual dive, beating World Champion Tom Daley to first place by 40.05 points.
In the men’s three metre synchronised dive, Peter and Chris scored 350.07 points and in the men’s 10 metre synchronised dive Peter and Max were awarded 415.11 points.
Peter added: “This was my first big competition since the Beijing Olympics and my shoulder operation in 2008, so I am very happy that I performed so well.” |
