I landed in China on Wednesday, July 30 and went straight to the training camp in Xian. I stayed in a five-star hotel, which was probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The food was top class and there was a lovely gym to workout in. The pool was great and had everything we needed, like a dry land training area.
We then went to Beijing to take in the Olympic atmosphere. The athletes’ village is the best and biggest I have ever seen. The rooms and apartments are big so we don’t feel like we were living on top of each other. The food hall is brilliant with lots of different foods to choose from.
I am now in Macau, which is the Team GB holding camp. I am here to get away from the hum-drum of the Olympics. It becomes a bit boring in the village after a while if you’re not competing and you can go a bit stale. So I am in Macau for some rest and relaxation for three days in preparation for my event on Friday (August 22, 2008).
I am training the best I have ever trained in my career, so I am hoping to put it all into the competition and come back with a medal around my neck.
The schedule for Peter’s category at the Olympic Games is as follows:
Friday, August 22, 2008 – Prelims at 7pm
Saturday, August 23, 2008 – Semi-finals at 10am
Sunday, August 24, 2008 – Finals at 8pm
NB: The above times are in CCT (Beijing time), which is seven hours ahead of BST. |
