OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield who found love by the poolside took a plunge of a different kind recently (Sunday, August 26).
The spring and highboard diver got married to Tanya Graves, aged 25, who he met at the pool where he trains, in Southampton before attending a reception with 200 guests.
The 26-year-old said: “I met Tanya seven years ago at the Quays Swimming and Diving Complex in Southampton, where I train, when she was watching her younger sister Haylee dive and I proposed on her 18th birthday.”
Peter and Tanya have a six-year-old son, Lewis, who was their page boy at the ceremony.
The couple are planning to honeymoon later in the year after Peter has competed in the FINA Diving World Series, which is taking place on September 1 and 2 in Sheffield.
The diver’s success at the FINA World Championships earlier in the year means he has secured the British team a place in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Peter took the first British medal of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with his diving partner Leon Taylor and is ranked second in the world in the synchro event and fifth individually.
