A lot has happened since last I did an update!
For a start I got married at the end of August. It was probably one of the best days of my life! Everything went as planned, even the weather was good.
Our honeymoon was brilliant. We went to Spain and had a really good laugh. It was good to have the break away on our own and just have fun.
On the diving front I have been going through a bad patch, trying to get back from injury. The body doesn’t heal as easily as it used to!
The first weekend in November we had the KlingerCook trophy up in Sheffield, which is a new competition just between the British and German national teams. This was my first meet back from injury and the first time Leon and I had competed together in synchro for a long time. My individual event was not as good as I would have liked – but OK. The synchro was a good performance for the first one back after such a long break – and we took gold, which can’t be bad! It felt very good to be back on the boards together.
In the last few weeks, following the GB v Germany event, I have been looking at the way I am training and preparing and have made some changes in my approach. It means that I am now feeling much happier about being able to make progress and get myself back to peak performance, which will be very important since 2008 is Olympic year!
I’m just back from Montreal in Canada, where I competed at the Camo Diving Competition. This was another chance for Leon and I to compete at an international level and it also give me an opportunity to go up against some of the top world divers in the individual events. I was very pleased with my result as I was awarded a bronze for my individual platform event and scored more than 100 for two of my other dives.
Now that I’m back I won’t be able to just concentrate on Christmas as our Senior Nationals and World trials take place starting on 4th January, so we will be up to Manchester for that straight after the New Year. What makes it more difficult is that the pool in Southampton is closing for around 3 weeks from 10th December, so we will be in Sheffield to train between Camo and Christmas.
I shall have to make sure I don’t stuff myself at Christmas as I want to put in a good performance in Manchester to qualify for the Worlds in February.
I found out recently one of the downsides of having the motorbike when on a trip up to London to talk to some school kids my rucksack came open and I lost my Olympic silver and Commonwealth gold medals! As you can imagine I was absolutely devastated. I still have a faint hope that someone will find them, but as time passes it seems less and less likely. I have been trying to find out if I can get replicas, but it won’t be quite the same.
