Olympic and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield has returned from the USA this week after coming sixth in the men’s final at the FINA Grand Prix.
Twenty-six-year-old Peter, who is a member of the Southampton Diving Academy, finished with an overall score of 419.10 after competing in the men’s 10m platform dive.
Peter explained: “I am very happy to have finished sixth in the USA. I had strong preliminary and semi-final rounds but struggled to find my best form in the final. I am looking forward to competing in the next FINA Grand Prix in June where I hope to improve my score.”
Peter received the highest number of points for a single dive in the fourth round of the men’s 10m platform event scoring 96 for his reverse three and a half somersaults in a tuck position dive.
The diver’s success at the FINA World Championships earlier in the year means that he has secured the British team a place in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Peter took the first British medal of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with his diving partner Leon Taylor and is ranked second in the world in the synchro event and fifth individually.
The next step for Peter will be competing in the Rostock FINA Grand Prix in Germany in June.
